Isabella and Us. Mummy Blog Series - Melanie Fraser
/I am so excited to be bringing you the next blog for our Mummy Blog Series this morning! Every week one mum will be answering two questions and a few This or That questions sharing some of their stories about motherhood!
Today it is the turn of the lovely Melanie Fraser. Melanie is a 30-something, Cumbrian Stay at Home Mum to her three 'adorable' children. Her passion for writing inspired her to create her blog Fraser's Fun House where she shares posts about family life, parenting, day's out and lifestyle as well as a dash of her other passions books and Christmas! Her hobbies include - but are not limited to- visiting the loo with an audience and picking up after her family.
What is your biggest mummy win to date?
My biggest Mummy win is simply getting through the day with everyone and everything in one piece! With three kids to get up, dressed and delivered to school and nursery with the correct kit, clothes, books, shoes, etc it is a real challenge even before making it to 8.30am. The older two are teenagers and trying to get them out of bed is as easy as plaiting snot – not that I have ever tried, but I imagine it’s impossible. Add to that a stubborn four-year-old who despises brushing his teeth and I’m already on the backfoot, but the sense of achievement when I have wrestled everyone out the front door and delivered them on time and fully equipped is immense -Mum is winning already Hi-5.
My biggest challenge comes though when they all arrive home ‘hangry’, this is by far the worst part of the day. Having to negotiate the mood swings and bickering whilst attempting to cook something they consider’ edible’ that doesn’t consist of nugget shaped chicken and thinly cut potatoes! Tea complete; another mini win for Mum before the battle of bath time for the little man! With him sparkly clean and asleep I sometime fool myself into a false sense of security that my day is complete, but my job is far from done. Some background nagging about homework, clean rooms and getting showered and sorted for bed for the girls and finally I can breathe a sigh of relief, I have made it through the day, everyone was where they were supposed to be with what they needed. They have been fed, watered and bathed and nothing disastrous has happened – hooray! Let’s hope the same can be said for tomorrow when I must do it all again!
What is your 'you know you are a parent when' moment.
There are so many to choose from, but for me, I know I’m a parent whenever I try to eat something! If it’s not the little one trying to stick his fingers in my food or stealing some from my plate when my back is turned it’s the girls hovering around when they spot something they think looks yummy. I can’t just eat one thing without the kid’s beady eyes on me waiting to pounce and claim it as their own.
As a parent it’s also practically impossible to eat a hot meal without interruption - someone needs a drink, where’s the ketchup, can I have another knife I dropped mine on the floor, just some of the reasons I spend my time leaping up from the dining table like my chair is wired to the mains. For now, I have resigned myself to forgoing hot food and have accepted that sharing, willingly or otherwise, is all just part of being a parent.
