Self-Care Mummy Blog Series - Week 26

selfcare mummy blog series.jpg

This New Year I’m talking all about Self-Care as a mum and how important it is to take that time for us. Every week I’ll be bringing you a new guest blog post with some top tips and hopefully throughout the next few months we’ll have put together an amazing list of different ideas for self-care.

This week is Sheila Bekoe.

Tell us a bit about yourself - who you are, what you do and a bit about your family:

I'm Sheila Bekoe. I'm a mum of 4 boys. I run a photo booth company and prior to that I had been working in mental health.

What do you do for self-care as a mum and how do you make time for self-care?

As a mum the most effective self care I have used is prayer and meditation. Second is music and reading self help books. I try to pray at least every day. Sometimes I've done it at dawn or after I've dropped them off in school and prayed in the car. I also use a lot of audio books, if I can't physically read a book, I listen on the go and I find it helpful. I have also been blessed to have very supportive friends. Who have been there for me through thick and thin, I known some of my friends since secondary school. So when times have been rough they have been there for me.

What are your three top tips for self-care for mums?

1. Prayer and meditation
2. Good support - can be friends or family
3. Music & books

Are there any products/businesses/podcasts ect that you would recommend for self-care?

Its funny because I'm planning to lauch a podcast/blog. I listen TD Jakes. He's a preacher but he is very motivational as well.
