How to love and own your post baby body

More than ever post baby body transformation is scattered across social media, how to lose your mummy tummy or get your pre baby body ‘back’.

I will admit when I began my new business venture as a pre and postnatal exercise specialist 5 years ago before I had a child of my own it was what I thought people new mums wanted to hear.

I can honestly say after having my first child I felt an overwhelming pressure to get back to my business, master breastfeeding and be a super mum when my little girl was just 4 months old. This led to a delayed onset of postnatal depression & anxiety. During my recovery what was important that I took that expectation of pressure away from myself which so hard as I am a perfectionist. I wanted the old me back, the strong fitness fanatic but also be a ‘perfect’ mum at the same time. Unrealistic to say the least.

I had to change my perspective of this expectation that I had put on myself and work hard at implementing self-care, self-love but also acceptance for my new life & new body. Which as a person who loves helping others but not herself was as journey but one I do not regret. I also felt I could do more and help others who maybe experiencing what I had.

After 5 years of training new mums and mums be it has become apparent it is a lot more than losing the mum tum. A training session or group exercise class is a community, it is a shoulder to cry on, it is a place of safety, relaxation, and escapism for that 1- 2 hours per week that is solely about them with no judgement or expectation to get it right. Its 'me time' and a form of self care.

From there on it has been my mission to create a service to mamas to empower them to regain a sense of self mind and body but also own their new bodies. You can still be a great mama with a different shape; you can still be strong without the abs and you can still have abs in you really want. Your body shape does not define you.

There is no shame in wanting a piece of yourself back, self-care is not selfish. But sometimes we may have to learn to accept that things may have changed which can be a challenge, but life’s a journey and journey is where we travel from one place to the next.
