Share your Reality - Simone Power , Founder of Bowler Bear Designs
/Share your Reality
As a parent of 2 boys I can often beat myself up about all the things I’m not doing. I look at other people's lives through the social media haze & comparison starts to sink in. I begin to question what I am doing, how I am doing it & why does it not look like their ‘perfect’ life. The thing is though, it’s so easy to showcase that ‘perfect’ life isn’t it? It’s just a snippet of time with a big fat filter on it that doesn’t actually sum up real life at all! We are all guilty of doing it though, posting that ‘perfect’ picture even though it may have taken 100 attempts to get it.
I think if we opened up more, and shared the mummy lows, along with the mummy wins, we would realise that we aren’t so alone. If we all just said ‘Do you know what today was hard work and here is why’ it would really help. Those moments when we feel low, when we struggle - those are the moments that make us strongest because we keep going. How amazing would you feel if instead of seeing those ‘perfect’ posts, you saw one you could actually relate to. One where you could reach out & say ‘me too!’
If we are constantly comparing ourselves to others then all we will ever see are imperfections in ourselves. But if we share our experiences, our struggles then we grow stronger because we have support, a network to rely on, a tribe!
Lockdown has been a real roller coaster, there have been days when I have felt victorious, and days when I have felt like a failure. But It’s OK, because life is hard right now. We need to accept this rather than trying to justify why some days we are struggling more than others. Share your reality, don’t be afraid of how you think people see you because do you know what? You can’t control what other people think. All you can do is show up, be honest and try your best.
And that is enough right now.
