/We’ve all been thrown into this state of flux without much time to prepare mentally. It can feel overwhelming and anxiety may be at an all time high. Finding time for self-care is especially important during this time of uncertainty to bring some calm into a chaotic situation. You are worthy of time out and carving out those small chunks of time will give you a boost and help you to keep a positive mindset.
I want to share 3 tips with you for self-care during a time of isolation.
Fresh Air - If you have a garden, balcony or a window that you can open, you have a way to get fresh air! You may have to stay indoors, or you may be able to go out safely for a walk or run to exercise. Take a moment to close your eyes, feel the breeze on your face or hand and take 5 minutes to breathe in deeply. Get outside as much as possibly and take in nature, listen to the birds and enjoy the trees and flowers.
Gratitude – This time has stripped away many luxuries and has brought us back to supplying our basic needs. It’s a time to focus on family. Allow yourself to be grounded and say 3 things that you are thankful for each day. It may be as simple as having breathe in your body and a home to live in or gratitude towards those working hard to keep our country going in these uncertain times.
Affirmations – Find a set of affirmation cards that you connect with or write some of your own. Affirmations can help to ground you in times of anxiety and remind you of truth. Speak them out loud and declare hope in this dark time. Use them to remind yourself of who you are as and when that is challenged. Stick affirmations around the house so that you can see them regularly.
There are many ways to love on yourself during this time. Find the things that bring you life. Nothing is insignificant! My top self-love act for myself is to have breakfast which I make time for every day. Its not fancy or expensive but it makes a huge difference to my day and my mental wellbeing. Think about what your basic needs are and schedule them into your day as a priority. As the world slows down allow creativity to flow, let the passions and dreams that have laid dormant because of busyness begin to surface again. Don’t forget to connect with others virtually and reach out if you’re having a tough day. Let’s use this time to reset, be kind to ourselves and to find joy in the small things.
