This morning I'm bringing you our next blog post our Mummy Blog Series this morning! Every week I'll be sharing one of these fabulous Mummy Blogs that so many of you of have got involved in!

Every week one mum will be answering two questions and a few This or That questions sharing some of their stories about motherhood!

So today is the turn of Kirsty Hudson. Kirsty is a stay at home Mum to 2 boys; Oliver, 14 months and Sam, 3. She runs her own small business and work for a choir as well.  In a past life she would usually be found in local am-dram productions, but nowadays she's more likely to be running round in a Geo Bubble trying to evade Grandmaster Glitch (and if you understood that then you also have a child under 3!!).

What is your biggest mummy win to date?

My biggest win as a mummy. The first time I went to the toilet in peace!?

I’ve been thinking about this for the best part of 24 hours and I’ve come up with so many small wins, but the biggest one? I’m hitting a dead end. But then I realised that my biggest wins are perhaps the small ones. Because those day to day small wins are what allow me to enjoy my children (overall!), to drink a hot cup of tea and to keep my house in an acceptable state; not perfect, but passable!

On Wednesday, I visited a new local soft play with both boys. It was the first time we’d been there and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

It was brilliant and - the reason for the mummy win - both boys were in their element!

My 3 year old disappeared up levels of obstacles and played for such a long time, while my 1 year old discovered the slide in the toddler area and proceeded to do it on a loop for most of our time there. I sat and had a coffee and a catch up with my friend. Both children happy, both occupied, me enjoying their happiness from the peace of our table.  I really felt like I was winning as a Mummy!

What is your 'you know you are a parent when' moment?

There are so many of these moments...

When you’re wearing a pjs and a shower cap to prepare for bath time; when you’re humming away to yourself and suddenly realise that you’ve been humming the tune for “Peter Rabbi” for the last 20 minutes; when you’re re-enacting “Go Jetters” for the fifteenth time before breakfast; when you can’t complete an action or sentence without a full explanation as to “why” and where it came from; and currently, when a “Cat in the Hat” hat is standard attire during  pre bedtime wind down time.

However, there was a meal time recently when I really thought to myself “now I know I’m a parent”.

I arrived at the dinner table - after setting everything out and nipping back to the kitchen for final condiments (BBQ sauce - a stable in our house) - to find my husband eating off a child’s plate, with one “grown up” knife and a child’s fork. Our 3 year old had decided he would only eat off my husband’s plate, and our 1 year old had taken exception to his fork, accepting only my husband’s as being up to the task (before face planting his food and eating directly off the high chair table). A short while later, having survived the initial chaos and general dinosaur roaring that comes with most meals in our house, the meal time ends with a conversation between Geoff and Geoff Too, two pieces of broccoli that our (broccoli loving) 3 year old has initiated a conversation with. They’re off to explore a mountain - his arm - and hopefully won’t get lost in the cave. AKA the giant’s mouth. His mouth.

My husband invented this game a while ago, when we were having trouble enticing him to eat, and it comes back to haunt him every time we eat broccoli, or carrots, or chips. (Because obviously they’re the only foods that have mouths and can talk).

But my favourite moments are in the mornings when all 4 of us are cuddled up together - when they’ve woken and we aren’t ready to admit it’s daytime yet so our 3 year old climbs in and we bring our 1 year old in with us. Sure, there’s usually an arm in someone’s face and there’s always a foot digging into us somewhere, but those are some of my most treasured times.

This or That?
