Isabella and Us. Mummy Blog Series - Gemma
/This morning I am so excited to be bringing you another blog for our Mummy Blog Series! Every week one mum will be answering two questions and a few This or That questions sharing some of their stories about motherhood!
Today it is the turn of the lovely Gemma.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I am Gemma, a married mum of 4, trainee accountant, live In Leeds, my kids are 2 boys, 2 girls aged from 18 months to 10 years. I have enjoyed Zorbing, Sedgway, have been on the radio for a piece about childcare and me and my friend auditioned for supermarket sweep when we were younger but left all the paperwork on the train on the way home, so never got to sign the info to appear.
What is your biggest mummy win to date?
My biggest mummy win was starting my business with 3 kids under 5 as a single mum. I ran a shop business, an online store and learnt a lot about business while dropping the kids at nursery, taking the kids to various toddler groups and entertainment sessions and I learnt such great organisational skills.
Unfortunately after 3 years my business closed as I couldn't make it pay, the big stores started selling the same products I was but with a smaller price as they had the budgets to buy a lot cheaper than I could get the products for, I was also working 70 hours a week managing everything such as admin, finance, the staff, buying, selling, advertising and just tiring myself out for little financial reward.
Once I shut the business I enrolled in my business Management degree and I completed in July this year with my final exam. I now have 4 children and am a graduate and training to be an accountant. Blogging and influencing is a sideline for now, it is a hobby and interest to share my thoughts, knowledge and tips for parenting and also the business world and my next stage is to create some learning videos to help educate people that I can put on my website / youtube for free as I think you can never learn too much.
My next challenges are to take on every opportunity that I am given whether that is volunteering at a local school to help with interviews, creating learning videos to help educate people, to be an extra in a local production or to be part of a local sports team - Life is too short not to take and enjoy these opportunities and life is rather boring and predictable without them sometimes.
What is your 'you know you are a parent when' moment.
You know you are a parent when you cannot have a bath without a child needing a poo, a wee or just to come in and mess with your bath bubbles or pressure you so they can get in the bath with you.
This or That?
Pizza or Chinese- Pizza - Ham and chicken
Cinema or a Book- Book - I love reading but hardly get the time
Night in or Night out - Hard choice as I love my girl nights and date nights with the hubby but then as soon as I finish work I am home in my pyjamas
Summer or Winter- Winter - Just because I am never bikini body ready and I am always a white and pasty colour.
Beach or City- City - I just hate sand, it gets everywhere and is so annoying. I love the hustle and bustle of the city and the adventures.
Thank you so much for sharing!! I am absolutely loved reading your answers!
